Jif Launches A New Product
We LOVE peanut butter at our house. In fact, I have to buy several jars at a time. The hubby likes to eat peanut butter right out of the jar with a spoon. (Hence me buying a different jar for him. Because dude! Germs. Gross!)
In the last few months, we’ve reviewed various Jif products and have found love at first bite. So when the company asked us to try their newest product, Jif Omega 3 Creamy Peanut Butter, we were more than happy to do so.
If you’re unfamiliar with Omega 3 fatty acids, here’s a little something from a website about why these fatty acids are such a big deal. (First off, DHA stands for docosahexaenoic acid. EPA stands for eicosapentaenoic acid.) “DHA is required in high levels in the brain and retina as a physiologically-essential nutrient to provide for optimal neuronal functioning (learning ability, mental development) and visual acuity, in young and old alike. DHA plus EPA are both considered to have beneficial effects in the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease plus associated risk factors as well as other chronic disorders. Whereas considerable amounts of the plant-derived omega-3 fatty acid known as a-linolenic acid (ALA) is consumed daily in North America (approximately 2 g/day), the physiologically-essential nutrient, DHA, is consumed at much smaller levels (approximately 80 mg/day) while EPA is consumed at the level of approximately 50 mg/day in a typical North American diet.
Usually you can get the best “bang” nutientwise if you eat certain fish. But not all kids willingly eat fish. And for adults who dislike fish? You’re probably missing out on some great nutrients as well. But there’s 32mg of the fatty acids in each serving of Jif’s new product.
The product is very smooth, creamy and peanut buttery. In fact, if you took the label off of the product, you’d never guess its chocked full of brain-building goodness. And best off? No fish burps afterwards!
For some reason, when certain kids come to our house after school, they ask for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. So my son and two of his playdates gave the peanut butter a try recently. Here’s what they’ve said…
Seth: Really good, mom. Can I have another one?
*Seth’s friend: Yeah. Can I have one too?
*Seth’s other friend: This is delicious.
And then all three ended up eating a second sandwich. So yes, six sandwiches were devoured (rather quickly and quietly.) And life was good. And then it was on to outdoor adventures.
This is a pretty tasty addition to the Jif product line. Although I was lucky enough to receive a jar for free, (in exchange for posting my opinions on the product) I’d definitely buy more when supplies get low.
*I haven’t talked to the moms yet about using permission to use kids’ name. So their real names aren’t listed.
