Gratitude – StL style!
This year has been a tough one for many. In fact, I’d just seen a post about how one person is ready to just get 2009 over with already! As much as many would like that, we’ve still got a few more weeks until we can usher in a new year.
Thanksgiving is a great time to pause and reflect on what’s going right. So I asked a few St. Louis area parents (and one friend who used to be a St. Louis area resident) “what are you thankful for?
Here are the results…
Sarah Broker – People who write poetry, because I can’t seem to! People who share their experiences even though some others may not want to hear their stories. Toilet paper. Fingernail polish. Cars with a full tank of gas. Airlines who get people to where they need to be. Everyone I’ve met. And those in my future. Books. Time to read. Kids hugs. Goofballs. Old people. Babies. Veterans. Soft sheets. The end of the day. Quiet. Noise. The journey to get to the holiday celebration. The trip home. Now.
I could do more!
Barbara Burk – I think because of where I work (St Louis Children’s Hospital) and the pediatric specialists I speak with regularly, I am most grateful for having a healthy family. Although there are many medical advances and some amazingly talented physicians working for sick kids every day, we still have accidents and grave illnesses that don’t discriminate from how much we make, love or have…. there by the grace of God… so the saying goes….
Sarah G. – I’m thankful for my family and our health and happiness.
Melissa Haley – That I can hear my children’s spontaneously laughter every day, a good flexible job with benefits, healthy relationships with most of my family. Above all else, even though my kids aren’t overly healthy right now (thank you flu virus) they are with me and they make me a better person just by being here. It’s a lot to be thankful for and I can’t expect anything more than that.
Raquita Henderson – I am very thankful for my family who allow me to chase my dreams, love me and let me love them.
Melissa Wilson Lee – I am thankful that God has chosen me to love and that His love is what helps me understand the precious gift of life!
Angela Prigmore O’Dell – I am most thankful for my healthy and happy family as well as the gift of life.
Kelli Stuart – What I’m thankful for seems so cliche, but I am just so thankful for my family. My husband is beyond supportive, loves me so well, encourages me and all around makes me a better person. And I am so thankful for my kids. They are healthy, happy and perfect. Crazy, but perfect. Particularly my third born who almost didn’t make it to this earth due to complications with the pregnancy. I cannot imagine life without him and I am so thankful the Lord sustained him and gave him to us.
Mike Wilkerson- I’m thankful for the never-ending nuggets of creativity conjuring I’m given each week from the electronic world around me. Finding ideas for new podcasts, blog posts and new business has never been easier because while I know I’m creative, the people and events around me provide a fount of ideas and subject matter I couldn’t possibly have come up with on my own.
Robyn Wright – This year I am especially thankful for the wonderful memories I have of my family and friends, especially of both my grandmothers. Sadly, both of my grandmothers have passed away this year and while I still am struggling with that, what keeps me going are the memories, traditions, and love that I have of both of them. I am very thankful for every moment I was able to share with them during their lives.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Very sweet post, Lisa! It’s fun to hear the thankfulness of others around us.
