The ‘Lou In The Spotlight
There’s been much ado about Kurt Greenbaum lately.
The St. Louis reporter turned “social media pro” posed a question on his blog in mid-November. A commentor responded with a remark Kurt found offensive. When Kurt realized the man worked at a school, he contacted school officials. The commentor was confronted and resigned. Kurt crowed about it later on his site. This did NOT go over well. Right now there’s all sorts of hot debate over who’s in the right and who’s in the wrong. Even Gawker and the Huffington Post have reported the story.
The St. Louis Bloggers Guild Editor, Kelli, bravely tackled the subject voicing her take on the unfolding incident. You can read her thoughts here. The Guild’s Public Relations head Melody took to her blog writing about here. (Melody’s post also includes the comment in question.)
And I ended up wondering… While we bloggers thrive on input, the occassional offensive comment will crop up. Trolls are out there. What IS the best way to deal with comments a blogger might find offensive. So I wrote about it too.
Nasty comments bring a blogger down. But the plus is that there are plenty of other bloggers to commiserate with. The article mentions Patrick’s, Kelli’s, Michelle’s, and Dana’s experiences.
I didn’t add my own experiences but if you’re interested in reading the comments on what turned out to be my most unpopular personal blog post, feel free to click here.
(Although most of the comments were positive, I did get some mean-spirited ones. And oh yeah if you are offended by swear words, don’t click because I get called some “lovely” names.)
