There are a frillion dieting books, and a gajillion diet aids on the market today. But the same parents who had enough determination to get their two-year-olds to stop picking their nose in public surely have enough determination to get in shape through the only, 100% proven method- diet and exercise.
Many people say their biggest problem is the dreaded diet change, especially for parents who are chasing those little nostril diggers around, while figuring out how to meet work deadlines and keeping things spicy in the bedroom (perhaps Mominatrix style?). Add to that not eating enough, cutting out a staple food group, or learning a new definition of dinner and it adds up.
The good news is that making diet changes doesn’t mean learning a whole new repertoire of recipes, and most grocery stores are heading the organic/whole food call that customers are sounding and carrying more products (even at the major, blue vest wearing chains). It is easier than ever to eat healthy if you work to become familiar with some of the better food options that are now packing your supermarket shelves. The folks at American Baby magazine tried out more than 600 healthy grocery store items and picked the 50 of tastiest and healthiest items, here is a quick clip from Great Day St. Louis, a live lifestyle show on St. Louis CBS affiliate KMOV, where we talk about a few of the items that made their list:
In addition to some of the grab and go items that we talked about on Great Day, one of the easiest ways to healthify your grocery cart and to scan and bag your way to a healthy you is through making simple product swaps when you are making some of your family’s favorite meals. For example, switching bison for ground beef pound for pounds saves you 2/3 of your calories and has less fat, reading the label to pick the lowest sugar options (even if there are a few more calories) will help trim your waist line can even help stave off that 2pm cup of coffee because you have less sugar crashes, and swapping whole (i.e. brown) grains for refined (i.e. white) carbs are simple changes that can make a big difference on the scale, impact how you feel overall, and they even help you sleep better.
