Do Sketchers Shape-Ups Work?

Posted by Lisa Bertrand on March 3, 2010

sketchersshapeupsThey promise to shape calves and firm up thighs, butt, and tummy. Plus? They’re supposed to help you lose weight AND improve your posture. That’s a pretty tall order for any product, let alone a shoe.

But I was dying to buy a pair of Sketchers Shape-Ups. I wanted to believe I could walk my way to a fabulously toned “me”. Especially since swimsuit season is coming up! (I’ve got a bikini in the closet, people.) So I bought the shoes.

I found the grey ones with a little bit of pink shown here. They fit snuggly. I’ve heard many people felt a bit awkward walking in their Sketchers at first but I didn’t. They were comfy and I wore them the first day for a few hours. (The marketing material you get with the product cautions people to spend about 30 minutes a day at first walking in them, mentioning one might feel some soreness. But I’ve had no problems.) After the first day, I’ve worn them all day, each day.

So the million dollar question – do they work?  I’ve had them for about three weeks now.  I can tell that when I do walk a long enough distance to pick up some speed, I feel a stretch in some muscles I typically don’t feel while wearing my regular sneakers. I don’t seem more toned (at least my pants aren’t fitting any differently,). But in the shoe’s defence, there’s really no way most exercise programs will transform a person in three weeks. So I wasn’t expecting to notice any real results so early. The company’s study found results after six weeks. So I’ve got a few more weeks to go. But in the last few weeks? I do notice my posture has improved quite a bit, even when I don’t wear the shoes. My lower back is feeling much better these days too.

The shoes cost around $100. I found mine at DSW. (There are several in the Metro East area. Score for the frequent buyer program. Cause I was able to use some rewards certficates to knock that price down a bit.)

I bought these shoes myself. I have not recieved compensation of any kind to write this review.
