The Sex Chat Checklist

Posted by Lisa Bertrand on April 2, 2010

momtalkaboutsexSo you’ve decided on the time, place and way you’re going to broach the big talk. Here’s a checklist of  some of the points you’ll want to cover.  (Yes, the list is long.)  Keep in mind it is best you have a series of chats with your child instead of just one marathon monologue.

*Make sure your child understands anatomy and reproduction differences in males and females. (And don’t forget to talk about puberty and the changes it brings.)
*The mechanics of sexual intercourse and pregnancy.
*Sexual orientation, including heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality.
*The other types of sexual behavior (like petting, oral sex, and masturbation).
*Fertility and birth control.
*The physical and emotional aspects of sex, love, intimacy well as any religious/cultural beliefs you  may have.
*Sexually transmitted diseases that can occur.
*Rape and date rape. What increases the risks
*Self-image and peer pressure.
