About Us
Once upon a time St. Louis moms Lisa Bertrand and Kristie Steinlage decided to create a website devoted to St. Louis family life. Kristie set out to create the cool design you see here. Lisa started working on content. And viola! Here we are.
Lisa, also the managing partner, lives in West County with her Sudoku-loving husband, Wii-addicted son, cranky old lady dog and new pup. These days, she’s a freelance writer who’s attempting to finish her first novel while working on a second.
Lisa began blogging at Midwestern Mommy (later renamed MotherOfBun) in January of 2005, then two years later, created Midwestern Mommy Reviews, where she wrote product reviews for Parent Bloggers Network (PBN) and MomCentral. The gig with PBN later morphed into managing product review campaigns for the site. Currently Lisa is a contributor for St. Louis Bloggers Guild (she is a founding member and chair of membership), Girls Guide to the Galaxy and Lipstick to Crayons. She’s also served as the public relations chair as well as a panelist for the annual St. Louis Interactive Festival. You can also find Lisa on Twitter @LisaOnTheLoose.
Partner Melody Meiners lives in St. Louis with her dog, Sasha, and the Mister (read: husband). They are a typical twenty-something couple: working, playing, and trying to figure out why pizza has gotten so expensive. They are expecting their first human contribution to society in May, and couldn’t be more excited. Though they didn’t cry tears of joy like on the movies when they saw their first ultrasound, they think they will be decent parents… well, at least they are hoping they can teach their kid to refrain from shooting laser beams out it’s eyeballs and from selling other children to nomads.
Melody has a degree in English Lit, and is trying desperately to disprove the stereotype that the only thing she is qualified to do is sleep on her parents’ couch and pontificate on Milton while smoking weed. She is the founder and managing editor of Girls Guide to the Galaxy, a freelance writer and interactive media strategist, and takes on the dreaded Mommy blogger moniker on Mrs SmartyPants. She also is the founder of St. Louis Women in Media, a local women’s networking group for media professionals and hobbyists. Her Twitter handle is @Cosmosgirl.
Kelli Stuart is a graduate of Baylor University where she majored in English Professional Writing and minored in Russian. Her passion for writing and languages has opened up many doors of opportunity that have allowed her to travel the world, meeting interesting people along the way. In addition to technical writing and editorial work, Kelli has also ghostwritten and edited several books and co-authored the book Dare 2B Wise with Dr. Joe White of Kanakuk Kamps. Kelli has also been a featured speaker on such topics as blogging, social media and publication for the popular market. These days, Kelli can be found at home in Ballwin with her three children where she is working on her first novel while also contributing to several different sites (5-Minutes For Mom) and serves as editor of the St. Louis Bloggers Guild. Kelli, a partner for the site, blogs on her own site, Minivans Are Hot. You can find Kelli on Twitter @KelliStuart.
Contributor Linda Doty wears many hats: wife, mom, sister, friend, daughter, boss, employee, jester (because jester hats are cool!). She’s been married for 25 years (to two different men – but wants credit for all the time served!) and has five daughters who range in age from 5 to 26. She works full time out of the house (she tells everyone she’s an astronaut, but that is simply not true) and travels quite a bit for her job. She writes because she enjoys it, and while she has been published in several local publications, her personal website, Just Linda, is where she does most of her writing. You can read her tweets @JustLindaSTL.
Bonnie Krueger lives in West County as a stay-at-home mom (after leaving AmerenUE) with her do-it-yourself husband Tony, two kids (one of whom is entering his final year in elementary school, while the other is beginning her first)–and four animals, two birds, a guinea pig and a hamster. Bonnie also helped raise her two step sons, who are 18 and 21. Her passions include researching family genealogy, traditional scrapbooking, studying the Bible, and of course, blogging. . In 2009, she began her first blog Inside My Head . She began a second blog devoted solely to the memory and unique story of her mom– Heart Speaks. Recently, she was also selected to write four guest columns for the West County Suburban Journal.
Hannah Mayer recently traded her Blackberry Smartphone for a Strawberry Shortcake when she retired from her 12-year career in advertising to become a full-time Mom to 1-year-old daughter Elliot. Since then she has been heralding her fertility with an attempt to break the world record for the most babies born in the shortest period of time – daughter #2 is coming this fall.
In her free time she enjoys eavesdropping on her neighbors’ cordless phone conversations through the baby monitor, volunteering as an English tutor for the St. Louis City school district and bucking the stigma that accompanies the car seat by challenging fellow drivers to freestyle battle raps from her Honda Accord.
Hannah has written and published several fictional short stories but her entree into baring her soul to the world can be found in her blog sKIDmarking. and her novel in progress Cute Little Bundle of Crazy. You can find her on Twitter @the_sKIDmark or become a fan at facebook.com/sKIDmarking.
And in case you’re interested, we do product reviews and sell ad space. For more information, contact Lisa at motherofbun at gmail dot com.
