It’s hard out there for a kid. Especially those kids living in “at risk” areas of our fair city. That’s where Discovering Options comes in. The organization provides children with a supportive and enriching after school program that can help them discover a whole new world outside of a current living situation (poverty, family conflict, a lack of commitment to school, and neighborhoods where drugs are easily accessible.)

Independence is one of those things most of us take for granted. That is until it is lost or compromised.

Life Skills Foundation has been assisting St. Louisians with developmental disabilities to live and work with dignity in our community for more than 45 years.

These days, Life Skills serves more than 1,400 adults and teens on a yearly basis to live in their own home and apartments, to find and keep a job, and to make friends and access the St. Louis community and all it has to offer.

June 15, 2009 was an ordinary day for most people. But it was to be a happy day for the Stephan family. Debbie (Goff) had successfully delivered three beautiful, healthy babies. Her 6-year-old would finally have the siblings he’d always wanted. She and her husband Ken were thrilled. But the family’s dreams quickly turned into a nightmare.
